Sounds great! We would love to go electric and probably would if we only had city trips in mind but we have family and friends all over the country so need something with a decent range so we aren't stopping off charging half way for 30-40 mins with a 2 year old lol. Once there is better range or better charging infrastructure we will take the leap. In the meantime we're leaning towards a hybrid.

Hey Meagan,

I have a Renault Zoe 2015 (22kw battery). I commute 90-100km for work each day depending on errands (it's Renault's first electric car model so top range is 150km). Plug it in when I arrive home and it's good to go again the next morning. If you switch to the night rate metre, you can charge the car from empty for less than €2/day with that commute (22kw x €0.10 unit rate). But since I always arrive back with at least 40% battery it's even less per night. €120 car tax. €400 insurance.....one service and no repairs in the past 3 years. Love my little Zoe....haven't looked back since

Aw thank you so much. You have no idea how much I appreciate the encouragement as it's very hard to stay motivated to keep blogging some days. Thank you.

Such an excellent post. This insight into your decision making is so incredibly useful in an Irish context. I am about to purchase a new car myself, and it's amazing to find someone who is an even bigger nerd than me plotting the way forward! Thank you so much for your incredibly useful insights. Please never stop posting :)
